Liberia Airport
Liberia International Airport, Costa Rica
Liberia International Airport (officially named Daniel Oduber letter code LIR) has become the second-largest international airport in Costa Rica and is the starting point for those wishing to take advantage of the spectacular beaches of northwestern Costa Rica. It is also increasingly often a gateway to all of Costa Rica with local connecting flights and ground transportation throughout the country. A flight to the airport in Liberia will leave a short distance from some of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rica.
Liberia Airport is just 13 miles west of downtown Liberia and the nearest beach is about 20 minutes. Liberia is minutes from popular beaches of Costa Rica in the northwest region, Playa Flamingo, Tamarindo, Playa Conchal, and the Gulf of Papagayo, where the Hotel Four Seasons. The airport is quite small, although there are plans in development for expansion. The airport has a two-story building with an outdoor area with shaded seating. On the ground floor is the ticket counter check-in and an exchange of money. Above are the bathrooms a small cafeteria, and the Airport Administration Office and a couple of airline offices. Taxis wait in front of passengers.
The distance between Highway 21, the main airport, and the resort is approximately 1 km and you can walk in 10 minutes. There is a bus stop right at the intersection of the entrance to the motorway and the airport to drive to either the city of Liberia (left) or beaches like Tamarindo and Papagayo (right) Public buses between the airport and central Liberia the city of Liberia A bus to the airport leaves the north side of the main church at 5.30, 7.30, 8.30 and 9.30 in the morning and then to 1.30, 2.30, 3.30 and 5.30 PM. The same bus leaves the airport to the city at 6, 8, 9 and 10 am and then at 2, 3, 4 and 6 pm.
